My creative work consists of drawing, sculpture, installation art, painting and photography. I focus on critical thinking around ideas of the internet, the body and everyday life. Most my artwork is a reaction, whether it is to events of my own personal life or to what is going on in society. I focused on everyday life in my work this year, mostly around the limited spaces I’ve had access to during the pandemic and how it has affected my body and mind. As seen in my string sculptures, they talk a lot about enclosed spaces and how the body moves about them.
I hope my audience can learn about internet subcultures through my work and question their own endeavours on the internet. I researched a lot into Incels, a male - dominated radicalised group that can be found online. For this work I focus on digital format and how it can help fuel radicalisation. I directly reference Reddit’s format (a social media platform) in my painting and photography. I also directly reference meme format through my photography to aid the audience in thinking about how memes have become so embedded in our daily lives. I think displaying the sad truths of incels as lonely, socially isolated men can help us empathise with them and reach out and help us deradicalise them.
